Bagua Palm (Bagua Zhang)

Bagua Palm, also called "Bagua Yousheng Lianhuan Palm," was created by Donghaichuan, in Wen'an county, Hebei province. It is one of three Neijia Fists (Neijia Fist means fists that mainly focus on the training and refinement of your spirit, internal energy and potential). The two main elements in Bagua are the interaction between the palm and feet movements. It combines the internal and concentration of breath with the external form of movements.

Donghaichuan was born in the 18th years of Jiaqing emperor in Qing Dynasty. It was said that he became an apprentice to an old Taoist in Xuehua Mountain in Southern China. His master spent 10 years teaching him a kind of peculiar but marvelous Martial Art. Afterwards, his master gave him a book named "Heluluoji" and told him to study it in great detail. With inspiration from this book and "Yi" theory, he creatively put the scattered techniques into a set of completed Gongfu movements, which became what is now known as Bagua Palm.

The movements of Bagua Palm are very soft and agile, making it easy to turn around or move forward like snake to hit the opponent's lower part. With quick movements, a Bagua practitioner can cope with several enemies simultaneously.

The central tenet of Bagua is understanding the transfer of movement between the stances of body and palm positions.

The basic patterns of palm are: single-changing palm, double-changing palm, double-hitting palm, penetrating palm, pushing upward palm, turning around palm, revolving palm and swaying palm. The shapes of this palm are: facing upward palm, fingers downward palm, erecting palm, penetrating palm, chopping palm, pushing upward and so on .The basic steps: twist inside of your feet, twist outside your feet, moving with large steps, stepping from a up-position to a down-position.
